George Emmins, who swims for Rushmoor Royals Swimming Club in Hampshire, England, has given a verbal commitment to Henderson State University for the fall of 2016. Emmins is the current open South East England Champion and Hampshire Champion, both in 100m fly, as well as the 2015 ASA National Open Champion in the 200m fly. He has qualified for British Championships multiple times including the 2016 Rio GBR Olympic Trials where he made the ‘Tokyo Podium’ final in 200m fly. He has already booked his place in this year’s British Swimming Summer Championships for both 100m and 200m fly.

Emmins’ best times in long-course meters for butterfly events are:

100m fly – 55.07 (converts to 48.32 SCY)
200m fly – 2:04.66 (converts to 1:49.20)

Emmins also enjoys swimming freestyle, where he’s been:

100m free – 54.22 (47.33)
200m free – 1:59.35 (1:44.43)

from a flat start but has gone as fast as 52.0 and 1:55.3 in relays.

In addition to his own racing and training, Emmins spends extra hours in the pool, teaching young children how to swim.

A press release about his commitment concluded, “Excited about joining HSU, George had a number of universities interested but after speaking to the coaching staff at HSU this always felt right.  George wants to take his swimming career to the next level and feels that the opportunity to combine study, training and competing extended to him by Coak Matthews at HSU is absolutely the right step for him.”

Henderson State men’s swimming and diving finished second in the New South Intercollegiate Swimming Conference championships last February, 324 points behind Delta State. Emmins’ converted times would have placed him 1st in the 100 fly and 2nd in the 200 fly, just ahead of Henderson State rising junior Max Pohl.
