Excel Aquatics’ Minatra Commits to Inaugural Indiana State for 2016

Katherine Minatra, of Rockvale, Tennessee, gave her verbal commitment to the Indiana State University Women’s Swimming and Diving Team for its inaugural season starting in the fall of 2016. Minatra was a member of the inaugural swim team at Eagleville School, where she is now a senior. Since seventh grade she and her twin sister, Mary Lane, have represented the Eagles at the county, regional, and state high school levels.

Minatra also swims for Excel Aquatics, where she has developed over the last ten years from competing at the age group level to Southeastern and Sectional meets. Her best times in SCY include:

  • 200 back – 2:06.03
  • 200 fly – 2:11.14
  • 400 IM – 4:38.12
  • 1650 free – 18:05.27

Minatra will join fellow Indiana State University Class of 2020 commits:

“When I first met Coach Matt [head coach Matt Leach], I was in the beginning stages of my college visits. I was still unsure about all the decisions before me, so I tried to be as open minded as I could. Knowing that ISU would be an inaugural team, I felt a little extra pressure thinking that my teammates and I would be setting the tone for this team for years to come. In the end, this truly is what stood out to me, knowing that I could be a part of something special. Talking with Coach Matt, hearing his plan and vision, then to have him tell me how he could envision me being a part of his plan and building a team at ISU, opened my eyes to the fact that this truly could be the next four years of my swimming and academic career.

I was very glad that I took my time in making this life-altering decision and not buckling to the pressure. I guess you could say I took a distance set mentality to this process and in the end finished strong. I am excited and look forward to being a part of the Sycamore Family.”
