In the midst of the University of Georgia Fall Invitational this weekend, University of Virginia swimmer Yannick Kaeser time-trialed a 100 LCM breaststroke race with stellar results.

The Cavalier senior is a Swiss citizen and competes as such internationally. During the 100 LCM breaststroke time trial in Athens, Kaeser clocked a time of 1:00.61 to register a new Swiss National Record.  Kaeser owned the previous mark, which sat at 1:00.94 from the 2015 World Championships in Kazan, which garnered him a 26th position out of prelims at that competition.

Kaeser’s 1:00.61 time sneaks into the top 10 in the world in the event so far this season, just out-swimming the former 10th-best time by American Kevin Cordes, which he held at 1:00.63.

Kaeser has a background of good swims at the Georgia Invitational in the past, having broken the University of Virginia school record in the 100y breaststroke event last year in a mark of 52.47. Kaeser also holds his school’s record in the 200y breaststroke event, set at 1:53.71.

At last year’s ACC Championships, Kaeser finished 7th in the 100 and 9th in the 200 breaststroke events.

Kaeser holds his nation’s National Record in the 200m breaststroke as well with the 2:11.65 he clocked in Kazan and was also part of the Swiss 400m medley relay from Kazan that set a new Swiss National Record in a time of 3:38.94.
