Larkin Sets WR on Australian Short Course Night 3 Finals

2015 Hancock Prospecting Australian Short Course Swimming Championships

Men’s 12 and Over 100 Butterfly Multi-Class

Mitchell Kilduff got the night started with his second championship, capturing the win with a time of 59.28 and 1056 points.

Womens 12 and Over 100 Butterfly Multi-Class

Taylor Corry was the clear winner with a time of 1:09.10 and 995 points.

Men’s 12 and Over 100 Backstroke Multi-Class

Sean Russo got under 1:00 with a 59.25 and cleared 1000 points with 1003.

Women’s 12 and Over 100 Backstroke Multi-Class

Ellie Cole wrapped up the multi-class portion of the meet with her second title.  She won in 1:08.26 and 985 points.

Women’s 400 freestyle

Jessica Ashwood completed her dominance over the distance events at this meet, winning the 400 freestyle in a new All Comers record of 3:59.23. Bronte Barratt followed in 4:00.70 with Leah Neale third in 4:01.85. Both Barratt and Ashwood moved into the world top 5:

Women’s 100 IM

Alicia Coutts put up one of the world’s best times to win in 58.95. She was joined under 1:00 by Kotuku Ngawati in 59.53. Emily Seebohm, who put up a world best 58.22 in prelims, did not compete in the final.

Madeline Groves scored a world best with her win in 55.93. Emma McKeon was strong in second 56.38. Groves moves to the top of the world with that time, with McKeon in third:

Men’s 200 backstroke

Mitch Larkin notched another world record, dominating from start to finish in 1:45.64. See the link for deeper analysis and video.

Women’s 100 backstroke

Emily Seebohm is on fire at this competition, setting her second All Comers record with her 55.46 win. The swim was just tenths away from her own national record (55.31) and Katinka Hosszu’s world record (55.03). She is now ranked first in the world to go along with her number one ranking in the 200:

Men’s 100 breaststroke 

21 year old Jake Packard pulled an upset on national record holder Christian Sprenger. Packard moved past the veteran Sprenger on the final few meters to win 58.41 to 58.44. 16 year old Matthew Wilson got on the podium with a strong 58.96.

Womens 200 breaststroke

Sally Hunter avenged her defeat in the 100 to crush the field in 2:19.23. She was followed by Taylor McKeown in 2:20.13 and 100 champ Georgia Bohl in 2:20.77. All three swims made it into the world top five:

Men’s 200 freestyle

Cameron McEvoy won his second title, and set an Australian and All Comers record in the process. His time of 1:40.80 also tied the commonwealth record. Thomas Fraser-Holmes followed in a swift 1:41.77. Those are the two fastest times in the world so far:

The Campbell sisters swept the top two spots, with Cate Campbell setting an All Comers record to win in 23.64. Her younger sister Bronte Campbell was second in 23.79, with Emma McKeon well back in 24.24. The two sisters are split by Sweden’s Sarah Sjostrom in the world rankings:

Men’s 200 IM

Kenneth To is making racking up the runner up finishes, and he would do it again in the 200 IM where Justin James came away victorious in 1:55.12. To recorded a 1:55.31.

Men’s 12 and Under 50 Breastroke Multi-Class

Richard Eliason had both the most points and the fastest time to win the 50 breaststroke. He went 31.03 and finished with 880 points.

Women’s 12 and Under 50 Breastroke Multi-Class

Tiffany Thomas-Kane won her second title of the meet when she swam to a swift 44.70 in the 50 breaststroke and earned 1057 points.

Men’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay:

SOSC won in a time of 7:04.88. Most notably Mitch Larkin had a fast split for St Peter’s, swimming 1:43.02 to pull them into 2nd on the final leg.

Women’s 4×200 Freestyle Relay

St Peter’s was victorious in 7:56.25, buoyed by a strong split from Bronte Barratt (1:56.25)

Larkin’s 200 back would have been 6th in the men’s 200 free.

Hell, give him a dive and he’d probably have been able to fight for 5th.
