This year’s French Open, taking place July 4-5th in Vichy, is not only fast-approaching, but is certainly shaping up to be quite a competitive meet indeed. In addition to such headliners from the host country as Yannick Agnel, Florent Manaudou and Camille Lacourt, athletes will be heading into France from around the world to up the level of talent at the 9th edition of the annual event.
One such group of athletes hails from the ADN Swim Project, the squad of elite-level swimmers based in Italy under Andrea Di Nino. ADN’s group will consist of a total of 7 swimmers from 6 countries including the team’s newest member, Asian record holder Shinri Shioura. Shioura is the most recent addition to the swim project, joining the crew just in May of this year. In 2014, Shioura became the first Japanese man to break 22 seconds in the 50m freestyle.
Trinidad and Tobagoan Olympian George Bovell will also be competing in Vichy for ADN, along with Russians Evgeny Lagunov and Oleg Tikhobaev. Belgian Francoi Heersbrandt and Ukrainian Andrey Govorov will be part valuable components of the ADN swim project squad headed to the meet.
Greek swimmer, Kristian Gkolomeev, has joined ADN for a camp on his way to Worlds in Kazan and will be competing in Vichy as part of their gropu. As a swimmer for the University of Alabama, Gkolomeev ended his 2014-15 NCAA season as 100y freestyle champion. Internationally, Gkolomeev finished 7th in the 50m freestyle at last year’s European Championships.
