After 12 years at the helm of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Director General David Howman has announced that he will be stepping down from his position in 2016.
With just over a year remaining before Howman steps down from his post officially on June 30, 2016, WADA will be starting their search for his replacement. His last day will be about two months shy of the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. During his time with WADA, he was Chairman of the New Zealand Sports Drug Agency between 2000 and 2003 and, previously, its counsel. In addition, he served as the Chair of the Independent Observer Team at the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City 2002, and the Deputy Chair of the Independent Observer Team at the Sydney Olympic Games in 2000.
Originally from New Zealand, Howman moved to Canada to oversee the day to day operations of WADA in 2003. He has been involved with many high-profile cases, helping preserve the integrity of sports by keeping them drug free.
