Arizona’s Kevin Cordes posted the second fastest time in history to win his fourth 100 breaststroke title in the same number of years. He was just off of his American record of 50.04 with his time tonight of 50.25.
He is now the third breaststroker in history to win the 100 breaststroke four years in a row. The only other swimmers that have swept the event all four years are Brendan Hansen and Steve Lundquist. Hansen won every year from 2001 t0 2004 and Lundquist won every year from 1980 to 1983.
He is also the first Arizona swimmer ever to repeat as NCAA champion four years in a row.
Cordes will be going after his third consecutive NCAA title in the 200 breaststroke tomorrow. The only person he has lost to in a breaststroke event at the NCAA Championships was Louisville’s Carlos Almeida in 2012 as a freshman.

With a full year of long course training under his belt until the olympic trials, we can expect something big from Mr Cordes next year.
