Erin Massey Named Assistant Swimming Coach at Sacred Heart University

Sacred Heart University head women’s swimming coach John Spadafina announced the addition of Erin Massey as the program’s first-ever full-time assistant coach. Massey, who will have a role in all aspects of the program, has been serving as a volunteer assistant since September.

“I am excited to have Erin join my staff as a full-time assistant after coaching her for four seasons as a collegiate swimmer,” said Spadafina. “Her experiences as a collegiate swimmer will be a tremendous asset to our student-athletes and I can’t wait to see the impact that she has on our program.”

Massey was a four-year letterwinner at Central Connecticut State University, where she was voted a team captain for the women’s swimming and diving team as a senior. She and her teammates earned CSCAA Academic All-America team status in each of her eight semesters on the team.

In the pool, Massey is a member of the Blue Devils school record 200-yard medley relay, set at the 2014 NEC Championships. She was a multiple finalist in freestyle events over her four years at the NEC Championship. As a senior Massey swam in the A final of the 100 freestyle and earned NEC All-Second Team honors in the 400 freestyle relay, helping Central to a second place finish in the event.

Massey, a native of Stratford, Conn., earned First Team All-State and All-SWC honors during her scholastic career. Currently working on her masters in Sports Media and Communications at SHU, she earned a Bachelors Degree in Communications from Central in May 2014.
