Club Wolverine pro Connor Jaeger has followed Katie Ledecky’s spectacular performance with a new American and U.S. Open Record of his own in the men’s 1650 free.

Jaeger swam a 14:23.52, which was better than Chad La Tourette’s 14:24.35 from the 2012 NCAA Championships. That old record by La Tourette was only the second-fastest swim by an athlete of any nationality in history: in the same race, German swimmer Martin Grodzki was a 14:24.08, which was previously the U.S. Open Record.

Jaeger’s previous best in the event was a 14:27.18 en route to winning the 2013 NCAA Championship in the event: the first of two times that he won that race at the collegiate level.

The old Meet Record of 14:34.85 also went easily by the wayside – that was done by Erik Vendt back in 2007.

Why would Grodzki’s time remain as the US Open record? Jaeger was faster.

Oh it was 14:23.0 not 14:24.0 for Grodzki, my bad.
