The Norwegian Swimming Federation has announced a roster of 7 swimmers for the 2014 Short Course World Championships. Six of those swimmers met the full qualifying standards, and one was added as a “wild card” entry.
The group is almost unrecognizable from the group that before the 2012 Olympics had many Norwegian swim fans excited, but does include one potential finalist. That swimmer is Lavrans Solli from the powerhouse club Bergesvommerne, who was 11th in the 50 back at last year’s long course World Championships. He’s a very good short course swimmer as well, and this summer he went a lifetime best in the 50 backstroke in long course: something he hasn’t done in short course since 2012.
Noticeably absent is 26-year old Ingvild Snildal, who announced her retirement from the sport earlier this year citing the inability to find motivation to continue training as an elite athlete. Snildal was the bronze medalist at the 2009 World Championships in the 50 fly and the 2012 European Champion in the 100 fly.
