Oksana Marchuk of Ukraine has been suspended for two years by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ukrainian Swimming Federation after a positive test for the Exogenous Anabaolic Androgenic Steroid Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone, FINA announced this week.
The 20-year old Marchuk hasn’t raced since that meet in April where she tested positive. Specifically, the positive test came on the day where she was the 3rd seed in the semi-final of the 100 fly before scratching the final the next day. She would still go on to place 4th in the 200 free a day after her positive test, and earlier in the meet she earned bronze in the 200 fly and silver in the 200 IM.
Marchuk has long been a member of the Ukrainian National Team system, including as a member of their European Junior Championships team in 2010. As she’s matured, she’s tended more toward a 200 swimmer (as indicated by her results from Ukraine’s nationals) rather than the sprints where she excelled as a junior swimmer.
Marchuk’s suspension is back-dated to the occasion of her positive test on April 25th, 2014.
