UVA Picks Up Verbal from Fast-Rising, Multi-Talented Bryce Keblish

Fairfield, Connecticut-native Bryce Keblish has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Virginia for the fall of 2015. “The whole process has been both gut-wrenching and incredibly rewarding, but I am thrilled with my decision. WAHOOWA!”

Keblish is a senior at Fairfield College Preparatory School. His first two years he was a three-sport athlete, lettering in soccer, swimming and golf. Junior year he decided to concentrate on swimming and it showed in his times:

11th grade 10th grade
50y free 20.75 21.55
100y free 46.32r 47.70
200y free 1:38.81 1:41.91
100y fly 48.70 50.79
100y breast 56.37 59.08
200y IM 1:49.46 1:53.23

Furthermore, Keblish split a 43.78 anchoring the FCPS 400 free relay at the 2014 Connecticut State Opens at Yale. Although they finished second to Greenwich, the Fairfield Prep boys came in 1.5 seconds under the state record. They did, however, set the record for the 200 free relay. Individually Keblish won the 100 fly and was runner-up in the 200 IM.

Even more impressive was Keblish’s summer long course season with the Westport YMCA Water Rats. We placed 6th at YMCA Nationals last year, improving from 34th the year before.

11th grade 10th grade
50m free 23.47 24.55
100m free 51.37 53.07
200m free 1:53.73 1:57.06
100m fly 55.70 57.85

To make an analogy to the business world, Virginia is getting not quite a “startup,” but certainly a “later-stage, pre-IPO” talent with Keblish’s commitment. As he says:

“Last year I dropped soccer and golf. I’m just excited to have another year of full dedication to swimming and to start my first weight training program next fall.”

By coincidence, UVa’s Ed Moses dropped golf senior year of high school as well to focus on swimming. That worked out pretty good!

I’ve had the pleasure of playing soccer and swimming against Bryce, and whether it’s on the pitch or in the pool he gives it 110% all the time. Great pick up for the Cavs. #Big3. #Kevinlove. #3peat.
