James Guy Grabs 200 Free Victory Ahead Of OLY Relaymates On Day Two Of Scottish Open

2026 SCOTTISH NATIONAL OPEN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Day two of the 2026 Scottish National Open Swimming Championships unfolded last night from Edinburgh, with multiple national record holders diving in for more practice rounds ahead of this year’s Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Day 2 Highlights

Having already scared her own British benchmark en route to winning gold in the 100m breast on day one, Olympian Angharad Evans doubled up with a victory in the 200m breast yesterday evening.

23-year-old Evans of the University of Stirling produced a time of 2:23.27 to handily defeat her competitors.

The next-closest swimmer was 17-year-old Evi Mackie, who turned in a result of 2:33.95, followed by Emily McGhee, who touched in 2:34.85,

Evans became the first-ever woman from her nation to clear the 2:20 barrier in this event as she nabbed a new national record of 2:19.70 at the Aquatics GB Championships this past April. That makes her the #1 swimmer in the world at the moment.

On night one, Evans unleashed a monster time of 1:04.98 to take the gold. Evans opened in a blistering 30.82 and brought it home in 34.16 to register the 2nd-best time of her career and just her 2nd time ever under the 1:05 barrier.

Evans’ lifetime best and British national record remains at the 1:04.96 notched at the Aquatics GB Championships this past April to qualify the dynamo for the 2026 Commonwealth Games and European Championships.

Manchester Performance Centre’s Ollie Morgan got it done for gold in the men’s 100m back, posting a podium-topping performance of 53.36.

Morgan arrived at the wall nearly two seconds ahead of the pack, with Olympic medalist Luke Greenbank settling for silver in 55.29, and 19-year-old Logan Vandermeulen rounding out the podium in 57.35.

Morgan currently ranks 3rd in the world in this backstroke event, courtesy of the 52.41 nabbed at the aforementioned Aquatics GB Championships. That was within striking distance of his own British national record of 52.12, which he established at the 2025 edition of the competition.

The men’s 200m free carried a monster load of talent within it, as Olympic champion relaymates James Guy, Matt Richards, Duncan Scott and Tom Dean were all among those diving in for the race.

When the dust settled, it was 30-year-old Guy who touched first, delivering a mark of 1:47.15.

He represented one of three sub-1:48 performers, with Richards next in 1:47.64, followed by Scott’s mark of 1:47.71. Dean finished 4th in 1:48.48.

Richards is ranked 4th in the world right now, from the 1:44.77 he put up in April. Guy ranks 10th (1:45.38) and Scott ranks 12th (1:45.44).

Jack McMillan is currently racing at the Sette Colli Trophy and is competing in this men’s 2free tonight, so we’ll see what that Olympic relay medalist has in store against these results from Edinburgh last night.
