Egor Kornev Fires Off 21.06 50 Free To Move To #5 All-Time, Reset Russian Record

2026 RUSSIAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Twenty four hours after shattering the Russian Record and becoming the sixth-fastest performer of all-time in the men’s 50 free, Egor Kornev one-upped himself on Tuesday at the Russian Swimming Championships.

The 22-year-old blasted his way to a time of 21.06 in the 50 free final, chopping six one-hundredths off his day-old national record of 21.12 while moving up one spot into fifth on the all-time performers list.

During the semi-finals on Monday, Kornev clocked 21.12 to break Vladimir Morozov‘s Russian Record of 21.27 from 2019 while taking more than three-tenths off his previous lifetime best of 21.43, set last year.

In the historical rankings, Kornev moves past Great Britain’s Ben Proud for #5 all-time, becoming the second-fastest European ever and the fastest ever in a textile suit.

Frenchman Frederick Bousquet owns the super-suited European Record of 20.94 from 2009.

In the 2025-26 world rankings, Kornev still sits 2nd behind McEvoy, who broke the super-suited world record earlier this year at the China Open in a time of 20.88.

In Tuesday’s 50 free final, St. Petersburg swept the podium, as Kornev’s teammates Daniil Kosenkov (21.78) and Vasily Kukushkin (21.91) set personal best times to place 2nd and 3rd and move into 17th and 22nd in the world this season, respectively.

Yes I know cam is the WR holder and his swim is still the new standard but breathing in the 50 at this level for the men and going this fast is completely unprecedented no one else has done this before nor did they have this semi-lobing stroke to go 21.0

Cam will be swimming the final at trials in about 11 hours. Will he be faster or slower?
