Okadome Scorches Another PB, 26.75 50 Breast To Become Japan’s #2 All-Time Performer

102nd JAPAN SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

After an explosive opening finals session last night at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre, the 102nd Japan Swimming Championships entered day two with more fireworks.

Yesterday 20-year-old NCAA champion Yamato Okadome ripped a monster lifetime best of 59.11 to take the men’s 100m breaststroke and the Cal Bear followed up with another powerful performance, this time in the 50m sprint.

Competing in the heats of the 50m breast this morning, Okadome unleashed a top-seeded effort of 26.76.

That led a remarkable foursome of sub-27-second performers, with Taku Taniguchi claiming the 2nd seed in 26.85, followed by Reo Okura (26.96) and Toshinari Yanagisawa (26.97).

As for Okadome, his 26.76 hacked significant time off his former career-quickest mark of 27.03 produced at the Pro Swim Series in Sacramento last month. It also came within .11 of the Japanese national record of 26.65 Taniguchi put on the books last year.

The result of the impressive heats shook up the all-time rankings for Japanese 50m breast swimmers, with Okadome now checking in as the #2 performer of all time and Okura sliding into the 4th slot.
