Day 3 Prelims Heat Sheet

There were no scratches in the top 24 of any of the individual events, but there were some big names from yesterday’s session that dropped events.

The #31 seed Joshua Staples and the #35 seed Tristan Jankovics have both pulled out of this morning’s 200 breaststroke. Jankovics, a senior from Ohio State, finished 3rd last night in the 400 IM, while Staples, a sophomore at Northwestern, finished 8th in the event. The pair is both seeded to score in the 200 IM tomorrow and likely are scratching from today’s event to conserve energy, with the pair looking to move into the top 8 from their 9th and 12th seeds.

Michigan’s Jack Wilkening dropped the 50 free this morning, where he was the 48th seed. The senior had a great anchor leg yesterday morning on Michigan’s 200 free relay, where he split 18.24. Wilkening won’t be without a swim this morning, however, as he is the 20th seed in the 100 back and will likely fill the first leg for the team’s 400 medley relay tonight, as Michigan hopes to defend its 7th seed.

LSU scratched their 400 medley relay from this morning’s heats. They were the 19th seeds.

I’m assuming a mistake – headline says Bey dropped the 2 breast, but that is not mentioned in the article.
