2026 PSS Sacramento Day 3 Prelims Scratches – World Champion Urlando Out of 200 Fly

2026 Sacramento Pro Swim Series

Day 3 Prelims Heat Sheet

Some commentators on previous posts have stated that Luca Urlando is in Sacramento and has been spotted in the warm-up pool, but it appears increasingly unlikely that he will register and make an official splash, as the world champion has pulled out of the 200 fly.

The top seed by a wide margin, the Singapore World’s 200 fly champion, Urlando, has not yet raced this week, pulling out of the 200 free on Wednesday and the 100 fly yesterday. As previously mentioned, Urlando withdrew from the NCAA championship in March, citing a “minor injury” as the reason.

His withdrawal was not all that surprising, nor was that of fellow top seed Claire Weinstein. The Sandpipers of Nevada swimmer, who just wrapped up her first season at California, scratched the first day of competition, later stating on TikTok that she would not compete at all in Sacramento after having been in the Emergency Room for an extreme migraine. In their places, Charlie Cancelmo and Kennedi Dobson have been elevated to the top seeds in the event.

What a bummer. Sounds like this isn’t really a minor injury. Very bad news. Sincerely hope he can recover and come back to compete. I’m so worried, based on his injury history.

If Urlando isn’t able to complete in Pan Pacs does someone else get moved onto the team?

Curious to hear the full story with Luca.. seems like there is more to it than “minor injury”

I saw people including SwimSwam staff indicated there is something else, but I have no idea what it is.

I don’t get it, why fly across the country? Is he just obligated to be there and sign in for USA Swimming stipend requirements?

He lives in Sacramento. Might even be done with school and back home with his folks.

I see that makes sense, I figured he was still living and training in Georgia.

I’m really pulling for this guy. He’s already so dominant, I wonder what he could do in the pool if he stayed healthy

I think he’d have gone 1:50 by now if he never dislocated his shoulder in 2020.

Or maybe would have continued to focus on the 200 freestyle too. If he dropped as much from that 2019 1:46.5 as he did in his 200 fly he’d be 1:44.5

Why is Wiffen at CAL.

Nooooooo Luca. I wonder if he’s still struggling with his injury. If so, hope he can recover soon
