Freestyler Carolena Kruse Commits To Western University For 2026

Kruse swims for Cascade Swim Club out of Calgary and swam at Ontario Junior Internationals back in December. There she swam to numerous lifetime bests including a 27.38 50 free, 2:06.59 200 free, 4:27.58 400 free, and a 31.84 in the 50 back.

Kruse’s Best SCM Times Are:

• 50 free: 27.38
• 100 free: 59.08
• 200 free: 2:06.59
• 400 free: 4:27.58

Western University is located in London, Ontario. The women’s program just finished with a 5th place finish at the 2026 USports Championships with 497 points. Sydney Hardeman led the team with 74 points including a 3rd place finish in the SCM 50 fly with a 26.63.

Zea Wetzlaugk also had a strong showing, finishing 2nd in the 50 free with a 24.76 as well as 4th in the 100 free with a 54.78.  It took a 57.09 in the 100 free, 2:04.18 in the 200 free, and a 4:24.80 400 free to make finals at the 2026 USports Championships.

Kruse plans to study engineering during her time at Western University. She also set a Guinness World Record in 2022 for putting the most socks on one foot in 30 seconds.
