53.7 100 LCM Butterflier Gustavo Santos Commits to East Carolina

The East Carolina men will add a big asset to their butterfly group next season, as Brazilian butterflier Gustavo Santos has given his commitment to join the Pirates starting in the Fall of 2017. In addition to his fly talents, Santos also brings sprint freestyle speed to the table. Santos will be joining an East Carolina team that won the men’s title at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championships.

Santos’ Top LCM Times:

  • 100 fly: 53.77
  • 100 free: 51.03
  • 50 free: 23.46
  • 200 fly: 2:06.10

Santos’ Top SCM Times:

  • 100 fly: 52.14
  • 50 fly: 23.77
  • 50 free: 22.70

Santos doesn’t have any yards experience yet, but his converted times bode well for the Pirates if he translates his speed as expected. His 100 fly converts to a 47.18 in yards, which would’ve been just 7 tenths shy of what it took to win the event at the 2016 AAC Championships. Additionally, his 50 free and 100 free times in the long course pool convert to 20.41 and 44.53 respectively in yards, which both would’ve been good for a top 5 finish at the conference meet.
