Salisbury, North Carolina-native Ethan Knorr has signed an NLI to swim for East Carolina University next fall. Knorr is a two-time state champion and three-time Rowan County male swimmer of the year from Salisbury High School and Greensboro Community YMCA.

“I chose ECU to continue my swimming and education because of its strong academics, great swim program and location. I loved the campus and felt at home with the Team immediately. Go Pirates!”

Knorr won both the 200 IM and 500 free at last year’s NCHSAA 1A/2A State Championships, setting a meet record in the 500 with 4:33.98, a PB by 7 seconds. His 200 IM time (1:53.83) was also a best time, by 3.6 seconds. Knorr led off Salisbury’s 400 freestyle relay in 48.88, a PB that would have placed third in the 100 free final; he also led off the 200 medley relay with a 25.15 backstroke leg.

Knorr swims year-round for Greensboro Community YMCA. The third of five swimming siblings, he is a Junior Nationals qualifier in the 1650 free, 200 back, and 400 IM. At YMCA Short Course Nationals last spring he placed 17th, 44th, and 27th in those respective events. This summer he competed at Long Course YNats in the 400/1500 free, 200 back, 200 fly, and 400 IM. He was runner-up in the 400 IM, third in the 1500, 5th in the 200 back, 9th in the 200 fly, and 16th in the 400 free, and came away with PBs in all those events, plus the 800 free and 100 fly.

Best SCY times:

  • 1650 free – 15:46.92
  • 200 back – 1:50.62
  • 100 back – 52.55
  • 400 IM – 3:59.26
