Event Highlights
Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo Goes 6-for-6 With Another Olympic Gold
- Norwegian ski star Johannes Hoesflot Klaebo finished up a legendary Olympic performance with his 6th gold medal via victory in the 50km mass start event in cross country. Klaebo’s gold not only marks his 6th of these Games, but also his 11th gold medal overall, the most of any Winter Olympian and 2nd-most golds all time only to swimming legend Michael Phelps. In terms of performance in a single edition of the Olympics, Klaebo’s 6 golds marks the most ever won by a Winter Olympian at a single edition of the Olympics as well.
USA Men’s Hockey Upsets Canada in Dramatic Finish
- Much like the women’s gold medal match earlier in the week, the men’s hockey gold medal game came down to the wire. In one of the most memorable finals of the Games, the United States men’s ice hockey team defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime to capture their first Olympic men’s hockey gold since 1980. Jack Hughes scored the sudden-death winner early in OT to hand the Americans the win over the heavily-favorited Canadians.
Eileen Gu Defends Her Title in Women’s Ski Halfpipe
- Chinese ski star Eileen Gu defended her Olympic halfpipe title from 2022 to claim the gold behind a strong performance. Gu, who currently attends Stanford in the US, bested the field with a score of 94.75 points for her 3rd medal of the Games. Previously, she finished as the runner-up in both the slopestyle and big air events, taking home two silvers as well. With the 3 medals from these Games, along with her 3 from 2022, Gu now stands as the most decorated freestyle skier in Olympic history.
Alex Ferreira Finally Completes His Olympic Medal Set
- American skier Alex Ferreira won gold in the men’s halfpipe, finally compelting his Olympic medal set after winning silver in 2018 and bronze in 2022. A longtime staple on the scene of halfpipe skiing, Ferreira had previous won multiple X-Games gold medals and World Cup medals, but had never stood atop the Olympic podium before now.
Germany Continues Dominance in Four-Man Bobsled
- After sweeping the podium in the two-man event, the Germans entered the four-man bobsled competition as heavy favorites. The squad did not disappoint as the two German teams went 1-2 in the event. The gold medal-winning team of Johannes Lochner, Thorsten Margis, Jörn Wenzel, and Georg Fleischhauer combined for a winning time of 3:37.57 across their 4 runs to claim the top spot on the podium.
- In the same event, the U.S. team finished 11th overall with former swimmer and NCAA Champion Carsten Vissering competing in their sled. The squad finished in a time of 3:39.94, only about a second out of podium contention.
Ebba Andersson Claims Gold in Women’s Mass Start
- After winning silver medals in her other 3 events, Swedish cross-country skiing star Ebba Andersson had one more opportunity to top the podium at these Olympics. She took full advantage of that opportunity, powering to gold in the 50km mass start event to claim the first Olympic gold of her career.

Canadian Hockey Teams Stuffed Reactions
- While fans of these Olympics have fallen in love with stuffed animals of the mascots Tina and Milo, some have shown less excitement about their stuffed friends. Both the men’s and women’s Canadian hockey teams have gone viral for their reactions to the getting the plushes while receiving their silver medals. All athletes that make the Olympic podium are awarded a plush in combination with their medal, following an established tradition. However, many have pointed out the contrast of awarding them almost immediately after the teams lost in the finals for their respective events.
