The discussion about the 800 free was a little bit strange as it didn’t quite relay the closeness of the swimmers. At many of the turns, there was less than 0.3 separating all 3 swimmers. You make it sound a little like Katie had it basically “in the bag” just because she was maybe 0.1 or 0.2 seconds ahead for most of the race. Maybe I need to listen again.

At 650m, Lani was in third and only 0.09s behind Ledecky. At the 700m mark Summer took the lead, which Ledecky took back by 715m only for Lani to come storming home in the last 50m

Why is it that the fans have to settle for Jason Knapp as the play-by-play announcer for swimming when NBC hires the likes of Arlo White (2012 Summer Olympics) and Jon Champion (2024 Summer Olympics) as the play-by-play announcers for women’s football at the Summer Olympics?

“… Wambach, space on the right hand side for Heather O’Reilly. Morgan in the box, Wambach in the box. Here comes the cross. Oh, it’s in! Alex Morgan has done it! Barely thirty seconds to go!”

Pan Zhanle needs a different coach you cant have a guy who is the WR holder, owns fastest relay split in history consistently miss finals. He just made it in Paris btw . His peak is best ever but sad he cannot reach it often.

Wild that the two swimmers featured here and named swimmers of the meet will both be coached by the same US coach. Talk about globalization of swimming!!

The relay that frosted my arse was the men’s 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay. From the discussion of breaking the World Record in the men’s 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay prior to the meet only to fail miserably at the meet. Not even a bronze medal. Sheesh!

Don’t care much with the homer picks for male breakout performer(s) of the meet:

Coetze and Jaouadi

I don’t get how it wouldn’t be the swimmer who has gone from no LCM medals ever (not even in Doha 2024) to a double world champion (no one, not even Marchand won more than 2 golds) in a competitive 800/1500 field, setting a textile WR in the former, isn’t the obvious swimmer for breakout star of this meet

I am going to come out and say it. Simone needs to leave Bowden and head to a sprint coach. Bowmen did a good job getting her fit again, but she needs sprint training if she ever hopes to get back down to her best times

I’m not saying she needs to stay with Bowman. But I’ll say a few things: 1) she’s had exposure to sprint coaches like Herbie Behm and Matt Kredich. She still chose to go to Texas. 2) Gotta believe in the training for it to work. 3) Her best times were done while training at Stanford with Greg Meehan. I don’t think anybody would confuse Meehan with a sprint coach/that program with a sprint program.

So I don’t know, I’d love to see how it turned out, but she went 52.8 this year at 29 after everything she’s been through with her health. That’s pretty dang good.

ppl are so impatient and forgetful. shes made so much progress since she was swimming 54s in 2023 as an older swimmer and everyone thought her career was over

Manuel will be 32 in LA is it too late to see that much change in her sprinting ability?

What makes you think he is writing all of the sprint workouts? She is also not the only sprinter at that program, Chris Giuliano is also there. With decisions like Jilian Cox training under Eric, instead of him or Carol.. he appears to be showing that he will help support the best training situations for each of these athletes.

Bowden, Bowmen.. yikes.

I was t trying to be rude and also that was autocorrect doing that. That is just my opinion because her winning has done a lot for our community. More black kids have started swimming after she won.

About Coleman Hodges

Coleman Hodges

Coleman started his journey in the water at age 1, and although he actually has no memory of that, something must have stuck. A Missouri native, he joined the Columbia Swim Club at age 9, where he is still remembered for his stylish dragon swim trunks. After giving up on …
