2023 NCAA Division I Men’s Championships: Day 2 Relay Split Analysis

2023 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Tonight in the finals of the 200 free relay, Florida’s Josh Liendo, Adam Chaney, Eric Friese, and Macguire McDuff smashed the NCAA and US Open record by nearly a second in a time of 1:13.35. In this article, we take a look at some of the splits across the field for this event.

Leadoffs

Josh Liendo had the fastest leadoff time at 18.22, which is 0.18 seconds faster than his time of 18.40 which finished second in the individual race. In addition, Liendo’s time would have also beaten Jordan Crooks‘ 18.32 that won the NCAA title. Crooks was the second-fastest leadoff swimmer at 18.44, while Bjorn Seeliger clocked a 18.59 for third and Youssef Ramadan went 18.68 for fourth. Seeliger’s swim was 0.08 seconds faster than his individual swim, while Ramadan’s was 0.14 seconds faster.

Rolling Splits

Jack Alexy and Macguire McDuff tied for the fastest rolling split, with both swimmers clocking a 18.12. Alexy was 0.01 seconds off his 18.11 anchor from last night, while McDuff was nearly a second faster than the 19.09 he led off in at SECs.

Most if not all of those left to swim will be gone by the end of the meet aside from the 100s fly and free
