2021 Florida 4A Roundup: District Highlights and Region Qualifiers

2021 FHSAA 4A District Championships

Just like Class 3A, the 4A schools in Florida high school swimming wrapped their respective District Championship meets on the weekend and will now take on four Region meets to determine the qualifiers for the State Championships later in November.

Below you can find the swimmers from the District Championships that advanced to each respective Region meet:

FHSAA CLASS 4A DISTRICT CHAMPIONS

  • District 3: Oviedo girls, Oviedo boys
  • District 4: Strawberry Crest girls, Celebration boys
  • District 5: Palm Harbor University girls, Palm Harbor University boys
  • District 6: Riverview girls, Sarasota boys
  • District 7: Windermere girls, Dr. Phillips boys
  • District 8: Jupiter girls, Jupiter boys
  • District 9: Park Vista Community girls, Boca Raton boys
  • District 10: Marjory Stoneman Douglas girls, Fort Lauderdale boys
  • District 11: Cypress Bay girls, Doral Academy Charter boys
  • District 12: Miami Palmetto Senior girls, G Holmes Braddock Senior boys

CLASS 4A DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS

District 1 saw Manadarin High School senior Gage Hulbert put on a dominant display in the boys’ 100 fly, marking the sole AA-A cut of all the district 4A meets in a time of 48.55. Hulbert also clocked an AA-C cut in the 200 free (1:39.36).

Leading the Winter Park girls to victory in District 2 was senior Lockett Bowley, who swept the 200 free (1:51.99) and 500 free (5:00.54). Fellow senior Isabella Lojewski neared an AA-C cut in winning the 100 fly (56.12).

District 3 had a pair of blazing-fast swims in the men’s sprint freestyle events, as Seminole senior Dawson Joyce blasted a 20.93 in the 50 free—just .02 off of the AA-C cut. In the 100 free, Lake Brantley senior Sage Sungail hit an AA-C cut in 45.71.

Joe E. Newsome HS senior Emily Waite was among the top performers in District 5, putting up the quickest Region 2 times in the girls’ 50 free (24.28) and 100 free (53.24).

District 6 saw Gulf Coast High School’s Carinn Bethea pace the girls’ 200 free (1:53.47) and 500 free (4:59.46), while a pair of Riverview HS swimmers also swept a pair of events at the meet. Sophomore Gracie Weyant won the girls’ 100 breast (1:04.49) and 200 IM (2:07.20), and senior Liam Custer paced the boys’ 500 free (4:37.37) and 200 IM (1:55.22).

The top swim out of all Region 3 meets came from Lake Nona senior Jordan Agliano, who dominated the girls’ 100 fly at the District 7 meet in an AA-C cut of 55.22.

Juan Mora registered an AA-C cut of 56.68 in the boys’ 100 breaststroke for the District 11-winning Doral Academy Charter team, which was the top performance among all Region 4 meets.

Among boys or girls, the lone swimmer to produce two top seeds for the Region 4 meet was Cypress Bay sophomore Mariana Cote, who won the girls’ 200 free (1:55.63) and 500 free (5:06.74) at District 11.
