2019 Pan American Games: Ana Marcela Cunha, Esteban Enderica Win 10k Open Water

Brazilian open water star Ana Marcela Cunha won the women’s 10k at the 2019 Pan American Games Sunday, hitting the pad in 2:00:51.9. Cunha was more than 30 seconds ahead of the runner-up, Argentina’s Cecilia Biagioli, who hit in 2:01:23.2.

At the recent World Championships in South Korea, Cunha won gold in both the 5k and 25k open water races, and also placed 5th in the 10k.

The race for silver was much closer between Biagioli and bronze medalist, Viviane Jungblut from Brazil, who hit in 2:00:24.0.

Argentina’s Romina Imwinkelried placed 4th in 2:01:44.7. Both Americans also finished off the podium; Kathryn Campbell placed 5th in 2:01:57.5, while Becca Mann finished 10th in 2:04:47.0.

The men’s race was won by Ecuador’s Esteban Enderica in 1:53:46.7, just ahead of silver medalist Guillermo Bertola, who finished in 1:54:00.0. American Taylor Abbott got on the podium with a third-place finish in 1:54:02.7.

Brazil’s Victor Colonese placed 4th in 1:54:03.6, while the second American in the race, Theodore Smith, placed 11th in 1:57:27.6.
