The 2016 NC State GAC Invitational is underway, with day 1 prelims now in the books. The Wolfpack distance crew got off to a strong start, with Anton Ipsen and Hannah Moore taking top seeds for finals in the 500 free. Moore leads the women’s field with her 4:43.69 from prelims, while Ipsen was the only man under 4:20 this morning with his 4:18.67. Notably, NC State freshman Jack McIntyre made a huge time drop to take 2nd seed in lifetime best 4:20.31.

NC State All-American Alexia Zevnik (1:56.74) and Duke’s Leah Goldman (1:58.58) were both sub-2:00 in the women’s 200 IM for the top 2 seeds heading into finals. In the men’s version of that race, the Wolfpack’s Soeren Dahl (1:46.04) and Hennessey Stuart (1:46.11) were narrowly separated for the top 2 spots. Also in the hunt tonight will be Tennessee All-American Sam McHugh, who is currently the 4th seed with his 1:48.30 from prelims.

This morning’s session concluded with the 50 free, in which Olympic gold medalist Ryan Held knocked another couple of hundredths off his season best to take top seed for the Wolfpack in 19.40. In the women’s 50 free, UNC’s Caroline Baldwin nearly cracked the 22-second barrier to take top seed with her speedy 22.01.

Does anyone know if they are suited for this meet?

Each team seems different on suiting and whether there was any taper. Top heats seem 75% suited in prelims.

I don’t think I saw one Tenn swimmer suited. A few of NC State’s distance swimmers (Ipsen, Moore, Linker, Muller) were not suited. Everyone else, I believe, was suited.

Maybe challenge to be the crown prince cause Dressel is the king.

No way he can in yards. Nobody can match Dressel’s start and turn.

I agree. Dressel is a half a body length ahead from the start alone. That’s a nice lead in a 50 free.

Dressel evidently just dropped an 18.7 leading off the relay

There are no results in the Live Results link. it always irritates me when meet directors set this up and then don’t load the results in. Makes them look incompetent.

Agreed. I took a pic last year at Men’s NCAAs when the people running the computers were just all having a good time chatting with each other when they could have hit the refresh button and updated an event on Live Results.
