13-Year-Old Ethan Dang Swims 3rd-Fastest 13-14 200 Breast in History

At last weekend’s Pacific Northwest (PN) 14& under Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, which ran from December 11-13, host team KING Aquatics’ Ethan Dang swam a lights-out 200 breast, among other events.

Dang touched the wall at 2:00.95, moving himself up from 10th all-time in the 13-14 age group to 3rd.

Splits

27.42 | 58.26 (30.84) | 1:29.58 (31.32) | 2:00.95 (31.37)

With that swim, Dang’s only obstacles from the top of the 13-14 age group are Reece Whitley and Michael Andrew. Whitley and Andrew were 1:55.52 and 1:59.83, respectively, in 2014. Dang is 13 years old, so he still has over a year to try to chase down his sub-2:00 foes before aging up to the 15-16 category.

Dang also posted a 56.56 to win the 100 breast, which vaults him to #5 all-time in the 13-14 age group.

In addition to his strong breaststroke performances, Dang swam a 1:56.53 to win the 200 IM, a 4:09.45 to win the 400 IM, a 22.01 to finish 2nd in the 50 free (he was 21.99 in prelims), and anchored KING’s winning 400 medley relay in a 47.13. Dang anchored KING’s 200 medley relay in 21.49 and finished 3rd in the 200 free (1:46.69).

Dang is the 11-12 NAG record holder in the 50, 100, and 200 breast events. He is also ranked 2nd in the 200 IM in that age group.

right i was a bit confused because andrew swam his 1.59 after reece broke ogrens record so he never broke the nag but ultimately was faster than it.

Anonymoose,

Curtis Ogren 2.01.17 12/17/10
Michael Andrew 1.59.63 3/26/14
Reece Whitley 1.55.52 12/13/14

Ethan Dang is now the 3rd fastest US 13/14 performer ever in the 200 breast with his 2.00.95.

anonymoose – as pointed out by bobo and breaststrokeswimmom above, Ogren had the record at 2:01.1, then Andrew broke it in March of 2014, then Whitley got it in December of 2014.

well one thing is clear: ethan dangs swim is the 3rd fastest in 13-14 age group history.
but ive looked it up at swimswam and found out, that first ogren had it 2.01.1 but then WHITLEY broke it in 2.00.1 in december 2013 (not 2014) and then broke it again in march 2014 in 1.58.4 (while it was still him who held the record not andrew) and then of cousre went on to lower it again a few times down to 1.55.5.
so that should mean andrew actually never held that record.
(which originally was the thing that confused me because i remembered, that was one of the few 13-14 nags andrew didnt hold, then whitley broke… Read more »

Awesome swims!! The picture shown in this article is very old. Although not as huge as RW and MA, he is much taller and stronger than 13-yr-olds.

The crazy thing is, this kid looks like a 13 year old (no offense, he just happens not to be blessed with magnificent height or build beyond his years). All the better to see him building a foundation on what he has for much future success.
