Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.
Ian Call from Collierville, Tennessee, has announced his verbal commitment to the University of Texas for 2027-28. He wrote on social media:
“I am thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Texas, where I’ll be pursuing my athletic and academic career. Huge thanks to my parents and coaches at MTAC. Huge thanks to Coach Alyson for shaping me along the way. I’m also incredibly grateful to Coach Bowman, Coach Erik, and Coach Trevor for this amazing opportunity. Bring on the next chapter! Hook ’em 🤘🤘🤘”
On Thanksgiving Day, 2024, Call broke his foot in an accident. In June, he reflected, “When I first saw my x-ray, the doctor told me, ‘You will probably not return to swimming,’ and that I might never walk again. I lost 30 pounds in my left leg during the first three months when I couldn’t move or get up at all. Six months later, I’m in the pool relearning how to swim, and just two months after that, I’m competing at the United States Nationals 🇺🇸.”
10 months later, in September 2025, he was named to the U.S. National Team.
At SwimSwam, we considered him an “Honorable Mention” recruit in our Way Too Early list of top boys’ swimmers in the high school class of 2027.
Call is one of the best sprint breaststrokers in the cohort. A junior at Collierville High School, he does his year-round swimming with Memphis Thunder Aquatic Club.
In high school swimming, he placed 5th I the 100 breast (56.55) and 10th in the 200 IM (1:53.18, a big PB at the time) as a freshman at the 2024 TISCA State Championships. In February 2025, he was still recovering from his accident (he did not race from November 2024 through April 2025). His first meet back was the MTAC Spring Invitational (50m), where he competed in the 50/100/200 free and 200 IM. Three weeks later, he went to the ENSW Officially Summer Invitational and clocked a PB of 24.89 in the 50 free, a season-best 54.33 in the 100 free, a very solid 1:02.89 in the 100 breast, 2:28.36 in the 200 breast, and a season-best 2:10.80 in the 200 IM.
Next up was U.S. Nationals. Competing in the 50 breast (12th) and 100 breast (17th), he went best times in both prelims and finals of the 50 (28.18/27.96) and in finals of the 100 (1:01.09) and punched his ticket to World Aquatics Junior Championships in Romania.
But first, he improved most of his times at Southeastern Swimming’s LSC Championships (50 free 24.19, 100 free 52.15, 200 breast 2:19.10) and Summer Juniors (50 breast 27.50, 100 breast 1:00.49). His 50 breast was the fastest 15-16 performance by an American in history. At World Juniors, he lowered that time to 27.45, placing 5th in the final.
Best SCY times:
- 50 breast (LC) – 27.45
- 100 breast (LC) – 1:00.49
- 100 breast (SCY) – 55.51
- 200 breast (SCY) – 2:01.21
Call will join #20 Ellis Crisci in the Longhorns’ class of 2031. So far this season, both junior Nate Germonprez and freshman Campbell McKean have hit NCAA Division I standards with 51.87 and 51.93, respectively, while junior Will Scholtz has gone 52.80, just .22 off the ‘A’ standard. Germonprez placed 3rd in the 100 at NCAAs last season.

Think we have a typo here unless there was a heat full of sub-WR swims that there was no news story about: At World Juniors, he lowered that time to 25.45, placing 5th in the final.
Most days, I try to find a “good news” story early on the day and reflect on it — and how blessed I’ve been today. My search for this morning’s news has ended at 5:35 AM – Bravo to this young man, his future at UT, AND happy about my search!
What a model of resilience, coming back from such a huge setback and accomplishing so much is nothing shy of impressive! Huge congratulations on the commit, you deserve it after all you’ve been through!
Think he’s gonna end up being a game-changer in this class! Nice get.
My aunt was told she would never be able to run at a high level again after an injury. She swam and played some other sports for the rest of high school and ended up with no scholarship offers. She ended up walking on at a d2 school after a couple year hiatus, and was so utterly dominant she went pro, and while she never made an Olympic team she qualified for 4 us olympic trials in marathon and one in track and field and finished respectably in all of them. Had a very decorated career, and flipped that success into a highly successful business venture which she then sold to one of the big sports apparel companies and retired… Read more »
Least-convincing cowboy ever
Wonder how much money he got offered to go there instead of the other schools he was looking at

False. Those were just take within the last week.
There’s pictures of him on Texas’ football field along with Mijatovic, Erisman, Deriveaux, Ekk, and Nowacki with cowboy boots on.
