Jason Chen
Jason Chen is a sprint specialist from Pleasanton, Calif. where he swam for the Pleasanton Seahawks. Chen is a sophomore at the University of Michigan, and he’s a pre-business major in the College of Literature, Science and the Arts. Born Nov. 15, 1995 to parents, Shujian Chen and Crystal Zhou, Chen attended Amador Valley High School, where he maintained a 4.0 GPA. He was a Junior National Championship finalist and World Championship Trials qualifier – Chen specializes in the butterfly, freestyle and backstroke races, but his best event is the 100 backstroke. At the CIF Section Championship his junior year, Chen swam a time that was under the 100 backstroke section record.

Michigan
2013-2014
As a freshman Chen earned NCAA All-America honors at the NCAA Championship meet. He qualified for the meet as a relay swimmer, and earned honors after swimming in the preliminary heat of the 200 freestyle relay. He swam on the winning 400 medley relay team at the Big Ten Championships. On Feb. 25 Chen earned Big Ten Freshman of the Week.

2014-2015
Chen finished 17th in the preliminary heats, 27th in the 100 backstroke, and 13th in the 50 freestyle at the Big Ten Championships.

National Competition
Chen has competed at the U.S. Junior National Championships — in 2012 he made the final in the 100m backstroke. He also qualified for the 2013 World Championship Trials in the 100m and 200m backstroke.

At the 2012 Junior National Championships Chen helped his club team, the Pleasanton Seahawks, finish second as a combined team.
