YMCA National Champion Cami Cook Commits To Pittsburgh

York YMCA and Cedar Cliff High School’s Cami Cook, a sprint freestyle and butterflier, has verbally committed to swim for the University of Pittsburgh Panthers in the 2016-2017 season.

Last season, Cook, along with York YMCA teammates Courtney Harnish, Emily Ilgenfritz, and Meghan Small, won a YMCA National Championship title in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:20.40. Cook, the second swimmer, split a 50.81.

Cook also competed in Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association Division AAA Swimming and Diving Championships last season, finishing eleventh in the 100 fly (56.76) and fourteenth in the 100 free (52.17). Here are her best times:

  • 50 FR: 24.35
  • 100 FR: 51.92
  • 200 FR: 1:52.31
  • 100 FL: 56.39
  • 200 FL: 2:07.39

The University of Pittsburgh women, led by head coach Chuck Knoles, finished eighth out of twelve teams at last year’s Atlantic Coach Conference Championships. Cook’s 100 free split from YMCA Nationals places her inside the relay times that last year’s 400 free relay swimmers clocked (49.92, 50.31, 51.29, and 50.52 for a total 3:22.04). With three of last year’s team members either graduated (Dani des Tombe) or graduating after this season (Leticia Lelli and Danyel Johnson), Cook has a really good chance of making the Panther 400 free ‘A’ relay in her freshman year.
