Yamato Okadome’s Biggest Motivation for Winning an NCAA Title? a Destin Lasco Swim Cap

2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships

Yamato Okadome accomplished a fairly rare feat in the modern NCAA, sweeping the 100 and 200 breast at the 2026 NCAA Championships. Okadome, a sophomore, was very happy with his feat, saying that he had promised his friends back home that he would score 40 points at this meet. His biggest motivator, however, wasn’t the points.

Destin Lasco, Okadome’s proclaimed ‘Master’ at Cal who showed Okadome the ropes when he was a first year, had made a deal with the Japanese swimmer. Lasco said that for every title Okadome won in Atlanta, Lasco would give him one of his caps. Yamato was very pleased to have earned two of those caps this weekend.
