Wyoming junior Maria Harutjunjan is the Mountain West Swimmer of the Week, while rookie teammate Karla Contreras has earned MW Women’s Diver of the Week honors for competition ending on February 1, 2017. It is the second accolade for Harutjunjan in her career. For Contreras, it is her second award this season.
The 2017 Mountain West Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 15-18 at the Texas A&M Natatorium in College Station, Texas.
WOMEN’S SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
MARIA HARUTJUNJAN, WYOMING
Junior, Maardu, Estonia / Audentes Sports HS
- Earned three victories for Wyoming as the Cowgirls beat UNLV in Las Vegas on January 28, 195-103.
- Won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:02.91, just 0.42 off of the NCAA ‘B’ cut and two seconds faster than the next finisher.
- Took first place in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:17.38, five seconds faster than the rest of the field.
- Swam the second leg of the 200-yard medley relay team that won the event with a time of 1:44.21.
WOMEN’S DIVER OF THE WEEK
KARLA CONTRERAS, WYOMING
Freshman, Cuidad Guzman, Mexico / Lazaro Cardenas
- Took the title in all three events at the annual Air Force Diving Invitational on January 27-28 in Colorado Springs.
- Won the 1-meter springboard and platform events on Friday with NCAA Zone-qualifying scores of 307.80 and 281.50, respectively.
- Wrapped up the meet on Saturday with a 3-meter springboard score of 339.35 for the victory. The score is also an NCAA Zone-qualifying mark.
