Winter Juniors Qualifier Chris Morris Verbally Commits to Minnesota

Chris Morris, a junior at Cathedral High School in St. Cloud, Minnesota, has announced his intention to remain in state to swim for the Golden Gophers in the class of 2025. His future classmates so far include verbal commits Andrew Garner, Bar Soloveychik, Jackson Brown, and Nathan Griffin.

A USA Swimming Scholastic All-American who swim for The Great Wolf Swim Team, Morris specializes in fly, IM, and mid-distance freestyle and is a Winter Juniors qualifier in the 100/200 fly and 200/400 IM. He competed in the 50/100 free, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM at 2019 Winter Juniors West, earning lifetime bests in the 100 fly and 200/400 IM. At the LCM time trials he added a PB in the 100m fly (56.92). Last year, he wrapped up long course season at NCSA Summer Championship, swimming the 50/100/200 free, 50/100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM. He finaled in the 50 fly (32nd), 200 IM (26th), and 400 IM (23rd) and improved his times in the 100 free, 50 fly, and 200 IM. Since the start of his junior year of high school, Morris has gone best times in the 200/500/1000/1650 free, 200 back, 100/200 breast, 100 fly, and 200/400 IM.

• 400 IM – 3:56.41
• 200 IM – 1:50.91
• 500 Free – 4:33.34
• 100 Fly – 49.51
• 200 Fly – 1:50.62

Morris’s best times would have made him the fastest 400 IMer and one of the top-5 100/200 butterflyers on the Gophers’ roster in 2019-20. He will find a strong IM/fly training group in Minneapolis with Isaac Barrera, Gavin Olson, Aidan Dulaney, Desmon Sachtjen, Shane Rozeboom, and Sam Kennedy.
