Local Swimmer Jackson Brown Verbally Commits to Minnesota (2021)

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Jackson Brown of the Aquajets Swim Team in suburban Minneapolis has verbally committed to the University of Minnesota. Brown is currently a junior at Maple Grove High School, about 20 miles from the University of Minnesota’s main campus, and is scheduled to join the varsity squad in the fall of 2021.

“I’m am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Minnesota! I chose Minnesota because of the amazing coaching staff, academics, team environment, and tradition of success. Thank you to all the friends, family, and coaches who helped me along the way. GO GOPHERS 〽〽️”

After qualifying for the Minnesota High School State Championship meet as a freshman, Brown didn’t participate in high school swimming as a sophomore.

Best Times in Yards:

  • 100 free – 47.26
  • 200 free – 1:41.41
  • 500 free – 4:31.20
  • 100 breast – 59.98
  • 100 fly – 51.79
  • 200 IM – 1:54.51
  • 400 IM – 4:07.40

Several of his best times were swum in the first few weeks of 2020 already, including his above-listed best times in the 100 free, and 200 and 400 IM.

The Minnesota men have not recruited their home state well. The Gophers’ current roster has just 5 Minnesota natives on it out of 34 total athletes (and 1 of those 5 is a transfer from Arizona State). That’s fewer than, for example, they have from neighboring Wisconsin. None of those 5 Minnesota natives swam for Aquajets, the state’s best club according to USA Swimming Club Excellence rankings, though current freshman Sam Kennedy is also from Maple Grove.

The Gophers will bring in 1 Minnesotan in the men’s class of 2020, Casey Stowe, and Brown is the first in-state recruit in the class of 2021.

The Minnesota men have a 2-6 dual meet record so far this season with just a couple of weeks to go before the Big Ten Championships that run from February 26th-29th in Bloomington, Indiana.

Ha, Aquajets being listed as the top club over Edina and Riptide? I’m fans of none, but saying Aquajets is significantly better than the other two is a bit of a stretch.

Not technically a Minnesota kid, but current Gopher freshman Cale Blinkman grew up just across the MN border in Hudson, WI, which is actually part of the Minnesota LSC, and finished his club career at St. Croix Swim Club in MN. So, kinda, sorta a Minnesota kid.
