Winter Juniors ‘A’ Finalist Ray Liu Commits To Stanford For Fall 2025

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps is the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel and all commitment news. For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Ray Liu has announced his commitment to continue his academic and athletic careers at Stanford beginning in the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. He was a Best of the Rest ranked recruit during his sophomore year of high school but fell from the rankings his junior and senior years.

“I am thrilled to announce my commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Stanford University. I’m extremely grateful to my parents and grandparents for their constant support and love. I would like to thank Coach Hector and Coach Andrew for believing in me and guiding me through my swim journey. Finally, a huge thank you to the Stanford coaches for giving me this amazing opportunity. Go Card!!”

Liu swims for Rose Bowl Aquatics out of Pasadena, California. Last December, he swam to numerous lifetime best times at Winter Juniors West. He made the ‘A’ final in the 200 back with a season best 1:44.58. His personal best times included a 4:50.70 in the 400 IM that earned him a 10th place finish. He also led off three of Rose Bowl’s relays in best times as he swam a 20.94 on the lead off of the 200 free relay, a 45.49 leading off the 400 free relay, and a 1:36.96 on the 800 free relay.

He just finished his senior year at Loyola High School. In May, Liu captured a Division I State title in the 200 IM as he won in a season best 1:46.54. He also was 3rd in the 100 free, swimming a best time 44.36.

Liu’s Best SCY Times Are:

  • 200 IM: 1:46.38
  • 400 IM: 3:50.70
  • 100 back: 47.66
  • 200 back: 1:44.49
  • 100 free: 44.36
  • 200 free: 1:36.96

The Stanford men finished 2nd out of 15 teams at the 2025 ACC Championships. Andrei Minakov led the way, winning ACC titles in the 100 and 200 butterfly events.

Based on his best times, Liu has the potential to make an immediate impact. He is just off what it took to make it back as it took a 1:44.70 in the 200 IM and a 3:47.80 in the 400 IM. The team notably graduates two of its three finalists in the 200 IM.

Liu will arrive this fall as a member of the class of 2029 along with #5 Ethan Ekk, #15 Jason Zhao, BOTR Andy Kravchenko, BOTR Connor Jones, and divers Gunnar Grubbs and Grant Schneider.
