Whitney Hite’s Coaching Contract at Wisconsin Extended Through 2020

University of Wisconsin’s head swimming and diving coach, Whitney Hite, has had his contract extended through the 2019-20 season. Hite just wrapped up his sixth season with the Badgers, with the women finishing 15th at NCAAs and the men 18th.

During Hite’s six seasons in Madison, the Badger men have finished top-20 at NCAAs three times, and the women five times. The women’s team’s only finish outside the top-20 under Hite was a 21st place finish in the 2015-16 season.

The Badgers just finished fifth on the men’s side and third on the women’s side at the 2017 Big Ten Championships. Hite has excelled in recruiting on the women’s side recently, having brought in (among others) blue chip high school recruit Beata Nelson along with 2016 Olympic gold medalist Cierra Runge, a transfer from Cal. He also coached Drew Teduits to a 200 back NCAA title back in 2013, along with 2016 Big Ten Swimmer of the year Matthew Hutchins, who became the first male Badger to win that award in program history.

Hite and his staff have also developed a strong sprint core on the women’s side, which has been highlighted by two-time Big Ten Champs Swimmer of the Meet Ivy Martin and current Wisconsin senior Chase Kinney, along with 2012 Big Ten Champion Beckie Thompson. On both the men’s and women’s sides, nearly all of the Wisconsin school records have been broken since Hite got to Madison.

This news comes after Hite was named the USA men’s head coach for the 2017 World University Games at the end of March.
