WATCH: Ryan Hoffer, The Fastest 15-16 Ever Over 50 Yards of Freestyle

Twice on Thursday, fans at the King County Aquatic Center were able to witness history, as Ryan Hoffer of the Scottsdale Aquatic Club broke the 15-16 National Age Group Record in the 50 free, swimming a 19.38. He has now gone under 20 seconds 11 times in his young career – more than all other 15-16’s combined – including the 19.45 that was the old record in prelims.

Otherworldly underwaters. I counted 7 strokes down, 8 strokes back (hard to tell because of switching camera angles. Went 15m underwater down, about 14m back so 7/8 makes sense.

It’s not that uncommon nowadays to see 50 freestylers going 15m off the start, but to go almost 15m off the turn and still go a 19.3? Incredible.
