For many, swimming in college is a lifelong dream that is pursued with dedication and determination. Fitter and Faster is proud to honor these athletes and those who supported them on their journey.

Edina Swim Club’s Lydia Cameron has committed to Virginia Tech as a part of the Hokie women’s 2026 recruiting class.

I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at Virginia Tech! Thank you to everyone who has helped me through this process. My parents supporting me no matter what, my two siblings for always keeping swimming fun, my friends and teammates always being here for me that being with laughter or their unwavering support, my coaches on Otters for helping me find my love for swimming, and Edina Swim Club for providing me with a home to continue to improve with amazing people. Jeff, Dennis, JB, Tim, Travis, Ryan, and Coach Sara thank you for making me the swimmer and person I am today. A special thank you to the coaches at Virginia Tech for giving me this opportunity! Go Hokies!🦃

Cameron recently competed at the Speedo Winter Junior Championships – West in Austin, where her top finish came in the 200 butterfly, finishing 40th overall with a season-best of 2:03.05. She also competed individually in the 200 free (62nd, 1:52.90), 100 fly (74th, 56.21), and 500 free (5:03.68).

Cameron hails from St. Louis Park, Minn., and represents Minnetonka High School. As a senior, she finished 2nd in the 500 free (4:57.14) and 3rd in the 200 free (1:50.34) at the Minnesota Girls Class AA State Championships. The year before, she won the 200 free in 1:48.83, and 2nd in the 500 free (4:58.22).

She set a number of best times at the Minnesota Senior Short Course Championships in March, including the 100 fly (55.15), 200 fly (2:00.08), 500 free (4:54.08), and 1000 (10:09.86).

Top Times SCY:

  • 100 Free: 51.51
  • 200 Free: 1:48.87
  • 500 Free: 4:54.08
  • 1000 Free: 10:09.86
  • 100 Fly: 55.15
  • 200 Fly: 2:00.08
  • 200 IM: 2:06.32
  • 400 IM: 4:28.80

The Virginia Tech women finished 9th at the 2025 ACC Swimming and Diving Championships.

Based on Cameron’s best times, she would have finished 34th in the 200 fly, 46th in the 200 free, and 50th in the 500 free at that meet.

Cameron has plenty of butterfly potential; her 100 fly would have placed 53rd at ACCs, but her 200 fly has some serious potential to contend down the road in the ACC.

Cameron joins a loaded recruiting class with Ally Vernon, Bianca Nannucci, Eliza Osada, Alexandra Hrncarova, Grace Marsaa, and Siena Santos in the Hokies’ 2026 recruiting class.
