Virginia IMer Kelsey Childress Commits to Canisius

Kelsey Childress from Lynchburg, Virginia has committed to Canisius College beginning next fall. Childress swims for Brookville High School and Lynchburg YMCA Swim Team. “I am excited to go to Canisius. I love swimming so I can’t wait for the next four years to see where my journey takes me.”

Childress is a primarily an IMer who expects to compete in the IMs and 200s of strokes at Canisius. She represented Brookville High School at the VHSL 3A State Swimming & Diving Championships last February, placing seventh in the 100 breast (1:09.98) and ninth in the 100 fly (1:00.78). She also swam the breaststroke leg on the tenth-place Brookville medley relay; all of which contributed to Brookville’s tenth place team finish.

In club swimming Childress had a strong summer season, culminating in the Virginia Long Course Senior Championships. She improved her long course personal bests in the 100/200 breast, 100/200 fly, and 200/400 IM. Her best yards times are:

  • 400 IM: 4:38.13
  • 200 IM: 2:12.95
  • 200 fly: 2:12.99
  • 200 back: 2:12.60
  • 200 breast: 2:28.71

Childress will join New York’s Maddy Chapin in the Canisius College class of 2021.
