MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Villanova women’s swimming and diving team earned a double dual road victory Saturday afternoon, defeating West Virginia 160-140 and Duquesne 180-120, while the men’s team fell to the Mountaineers 231-67.
The Wildcats opened the meet with a win from Peri Gaguzis in the 1650 Free, touching the wall in 16:58.97.
Winnie Jalet captured first place in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:02.77. Anna Farley added another victory for Villanova, taking the top spot in the 200 Fly in 1:58.81.
Anna Kilponen secured a second-place finish and a new personal best in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:01.31. She also claimed first place in the 100 Fly, posting a time of 54.10. Meghan Tiernan earned a victory in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:03.84.
Jana Strand delivered a strong performance in the 100 Back, recording a time of 55.68 to move into eighth place on Villanova’s all-time performers list.
Kayla Bolster recorded three personal-best swims during the meet, earning runner-up finishes in the 200 Free (1:49.26), 50 Free (23.59) and 200 Back (1:59.59).
Carlota Colomer Guasch finished first in the 50 Free with a time of 23.32 and placed second in the 100 Free in 50.65.
On the boards, Michelle Kasulka led the Wildcats with a second-place finish in the 3-meter dive, scoring 261.00.
On the men’s side, Justin Nowicki recorded a first-place finish in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:48.70.
Patrick Casey placed third in the 1650 Free in 16:08.45, while Hugh Boris earned a runner-up finish in the 200 Breast, touching in at 2:01.74.
Zach Sutter added two second place finishes in the 50 Free (20.75) and 100 Free (45.95).
The men return home Jan. 30 to face Seton Hall.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s and women’s swimming and diving team earned wins on Saturday at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
In a dual meet, the men’s team (3-1) defeated Villanova, 231-67. The women’s team (3-3) split results against Duquesne and Villanova, defeating the Dukes, 184-115, and losing to Villanova, 160-140.
Senior Gabriela Martin picked up two individual wins on the day, placing first in the 100-yard freestyle (50.49) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.89). She also placed fourth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:04.56).
Redshirt senior Natasha Whittall also had a tremendous performance, as she won the 100-yard backstroke (54.14). Her final time is the sixth-fastest in that event in program history.
Junior Maddie Smutny also earned a victory for the women’s team, placing first in the 500-yard freestyle with a final time of 4:56.11.
In the diving well, freshman Stevi Chalemou won on 1-meter (255.95) while senior Abigail Sullivan placed second with 251.90 points. Sullivan also placed third on 3-meter with 258.80 points.
The men’s team dominated from start to finish against Villanova. West Virginia began the day with junior Vedaant Madhavan winning the 1650-yard freestyle (15:42.71). Freshman Gabriel Tortola finished in second place with a final time of 16:00.04.
In the 200-yard backstroke, sophomore Joey Stebbins cruised to the victory with a final time of 1:45.36. That time ranks eighth all-time in program history.
Junior Parker Sterlitz had one of his best swims of the season, as he won the 500-yard freestyle with a final time of 4:30.17.
In the diving well, senior Glenn Eloriaga won on 1-meter (320.20) and placed second on 3-meter (338.90). Sophomore Levi Hellmann won on 3-meter with 347.10 total points.

Morgantown, W.Va. – The Duquesne University swimming and diving team traveled to Morgantown, W.Va., to compete in a tri-meet against West Virginia and Villanova.
The Dukes fell to the Wildcats, 180-120, before dropping a 184-115 decision to the Mountaineers. Duquesne still turned in a strong individual showing, collecting 11 medals on the afternoon, highlighted by four first-place finishes.
Sophomore Sierra Snow captured the Dukes’ first gold medal of the meet, claiming the 200-yard backstroke with a winning time of 1:56.45. She also posted a runner-up finish in the 100 backstroke, recording a personal-best time of 54.18 that met the CSCAA “B” cut standard.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Duquesne swept the top two spots as sophomore Jess Burns touched the wall first with a personal-best time of 2:15.31. Senior Sydney Severini followed closely behind to earn silver, clocking in at 2:18.30.
Sophomore Ashley Freel kept the momentum going for the Dukes, adding a pair of individual medals to her resume. She earned a second-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a season-best time of 2:01.28 that also met the CSCAA “B” cut standard, before capturing another silver in the 100-yard butterfly with a season-best mark of 54.82.
Freshman Lucy Backus recorded a third-place finish in the 50 freestyle, touching the wall in a season-best time of 23.60, while sophomore Kaitlyn Connors also posted a season best at 23.78. Connors added a fourth-place finish in the 200 freestyle (1:51.70), and Backus placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.78.
OFF THE BOARDS
The Dukes’ diving team was also in action on Saturday, capturing a pair of medals. In the three-meter dive, senior Ashley Felitsky claimed the top spot with a final score of 266.10 over six dives. Sophomore Brianne Dempsey finished fourth with a score of 246.20, while freshman Elly Huron took fifth at 242.60.
In the one-meter dive, Dempsey earned bronze with a final score of 249.85, just ahead of Felitsky, who finished fourth at 247.80. Graduate student Lola Dragosavac rounded out the top seven with a score of 239.45.
Burns went on to finish fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.78, while Severini placed fifth in the same event at 1:04.34. Sophomore Rachel Howard posted a personal-best 51.89 in the 100 free and added a season-best 55.59 in the 100-yard butterfly.
Duquesne also earned a pair of bronze medals in the relay events. The 200-yard medley relay team of Snow, Severini, Howard, and freshman Emily Kyre finished third with a time of 1:43.23. The 400-yard freestyle relay closed out the swimming portion of the meet, with Connors, Backus, Snow, and Freel claiming bronze in 3:24.65.
UP NEXT
Duquesne returns to Towers Pool to celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, Jan. 31, when it hosts St. Bonaventure. The diving team will compete separately on Friday, Jan. 30, facing the Bonnies at Carnegie Mellon for the diving portion of the meet.
