The 2026 Victorian Open Long Course Championships are slated for this weekend at the Melbourne Sports Centres (MSAC) outdoor pool.
Although not a qualifying competition, this 3-day affair is an important benchmark on the way to the all-important Commonwealth Games and Pan Pacific Championships selection meet, the 2026 Australian Swimming Trials on the calendar for June 7th – June 13th in Sydney.
This year’s Vic Open features several rising stars from down under, including Henry Allan of Bendigo East. The 17-year-old has been making waves in the backstroke events, owning a lifetime best of 53.72 from the 2025 Queensland Championships.
Olympians Isaac Cooper andΒ Se-Bom Lee are also slated to race, as are a handful of foreign talent to the tune ofΒ Erika Fairweather andΒ Lewis Clareburt of New Zealand and Olympic medalistΒ Daiya Seto of Japan.
As for 26-year-old Clareburt, the versatile national record holder is listed as a Nunawading swimmer on the psych sheets, as opposed to a Kiwi-based club. We’ve reached out to the IM world champion to find out if he has permanently moved his training base to Australia in this Olympic quad.

Henry Allan head to head against Isaac Cooper in the 100 back? Wishful thinking .. probably too long for Isaac lol
Well he is entered in the 100 so there’s a chance but kinda expecting him to scratch it.
At the same time as the Victorian Open, the NSW Senior Metro Championships will be held in Sydney. I see that Olivia Wunsch and Jaimie de Lutiis are entered in a number of events there.
Jaimie who?
Is this Sam Williamson’s first big hit-out post recovery of his horrific knee accident? Will be keen to see how Sam goes in particular π€.
Interesting to see what Will Petric does at his home state champs, think 2026 will see big things from Will at Comm games & Pan Pacs
Hereβs hoping!
Hopefully some good times by the new comers. Spurred on by the veterans. Always a challenge in πββοΈ π₯½ πββοΈ
