Vanderbilt Sweeps Last Meet of Regular Season Competition

Vanderbilt  hosted a home tri-meet this weekend, and swept wins against both Marshall and North Florida. Final meet scores were:

Marshall 188, North Florida 72
Vanderbilt 147, Marshall 113
Vanderbilt 204, North Florida 57

Vanderbilt was dominant in their relay performances. The Commodores started the meet strong with a 1.5 second win in the 200 Medley Relay. The team of Johanna Goldblatt, Kathryn Coughlin, Breanna Sapienza, and Hannah Martin touched in 1:46.28. Their “B” team also took third. To close the meet out, Vanderbilt took the top two slots, beating out the third place team by over two seconds.

Standout performances for North Florida on the day included Amy Taylor. Taylor took first in the 1000 free (10:16.43). This swim was good to break a six year old school record, previously held by Lyn Ann Nelson. Furthermore, this time ranks Taylor second in the CCSA conference so far in the event. She also took second in the 200 fly and third in the 500 free.

Vanderbilt’s freestyler, Summer Brown was a double event winner, taking first in the 200 free (1:52.14) and 100 free (52.09).  Later in the competition, she would go on to take second in the 500 free. Kara Lucenti also had strong performances. She was a double event winner, taking the 100 back by over a second, taking down Marshall’s Chloe Parsemain 57.50 to 58.51. Lucenti also won the 200 breast by a five second margin (2:21.41), and finished second in the 400 IM. Breaststroker, Coughlin, won the sprint discipline in 1:05.92. and took third in the 200.

Marshall’s key performers on the day included Madi Pulfer who took first in both the 200 back and 500 free. Other event winners for The Heard included Gloriya Mavrova in the 50 free (24.25) and Caroline Wanner  in the 400 IM (4:25.39).

This weekend wrapped up the regular season competition for North Florida, Vanderbilt.

North Florida will return to competition on February 17th at the CCSA Championships in Athens, Georgia.. Vanderbilt will compete next at the SEC Championships starting on February 16th in Columbia, Mo. Marshall will host an invitational from February 5-6, soon to be followed by the Conference USA Championships beginning on February 24th.
