University of Denver swimming and diving Earns CSCAA Academic Honors

The University of Denver’s swimming and diving teams earned Division I Team Scholar Academic Awards for the 2013 Fall season, the College Swimming Coaches Association of America announced on Wednesday.

“Division I athletics are a time commitment and a challenge for any athlete,” head swim coach Brian Schrader said. “Our staff is privileged to coach both teams who understand where the true commitment is—in the classroom, as well as be prioritizing the rest of their schedule around being a very good Division I swimming and diving program. It makes for a great environment for student athletes to have success all around.”

Denver’s men were ranked No. 11 with a 3.32 team grade point average, while the women’s squad came in at No. 25 with a 3.44.

The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester/term and in the semester/term of the NCAA/NAIA/NJCAA Swimming and Diving Championships (Winter/Spring).

At the top of the men’s list was Yale, which tallied a 3.62 GPA. The University of Alabama was No. 1 in the women’s rankings with a 3.60 team GPA.

The 2013-14 Women’s Swimming and Diving NCAA Championships will be held in Minneapolis March 20-22 and the Men’s Swimming and Diving NCAA Championships take place March 27-29 in Austin, Texas.
