Emory & Henry Athletics March 6, 2014 Emory & Henry Swimming Ranked 2nd In NCAA Division III In Grade Point Average

The Emory & Henry College Women’s Swimming Team compiled the second-best cumulative grade point average for the fall semester of 2013 among all NCAA Division III programs.  The Wasps earned a collective GPA of 3.66.Emory & Henry only trailed Whitworth University (3.69) in the GPA rankings for the fall semester. Furthermore, E&H is fourth among women’s swimming programs in all divisions, behind Lynn University (3.71) and the University of Bridgeport (3.69), both of NCAA Division II.For its efforts, Emory & Henry earned Scholar All-America Team honors for the fall 2013 semester from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA). The award is sponsored by Nike.

E&H is the at the top of the list of six Old Dominion Athletic Conference schools with Scholar All-America Teams. Greensboro College (3.42), Washington and Lee University (3.41), Notre Dame of Maryland University (3.38), Sweet Briar College (3.12) and Hollins University (3.08) also earned Scholar All-America status.

The Wasps performed at a high level in the pool as well this season, posting a 10-0 overall record with a 5-0 mark against ODAC competition. At the 2014 ODAC Championships, Emory & Henry posted a second-place finish, up from fourth a year ago. E&H won a program-best six events and set seven league records in the process.

Eight of Emory & Henry’s 13 swimmers were named to the All-ODAC Teams with freshmen Allison Fowler(Morristown, Tenn.) and Michaela Nolte (Hillsborough, N.C.) garnering Swimmer of the Year and Rookie of the Year honors, respectively. The pair also earned the program’s first-ever NCAA Qualifying Standards, picking up “B” cuts in both of their individual championship swims.

The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming & diving teams, who have achieved a team grade point average of 3.0 or higher. The award is presented twice annually, once in the fall semester and once in the spring semester. The CSCAA honors teams from each of the NCAA’s three divisions, NAIA and NJCAA.
