Amid turmoil, Ukrainian club to host Russian, Italian juniors this weekend

Ukraine’s Energy Standard Club, headed by famed Italian coach Andrea Di Nino, will host an international junior competition this week, bringing together some of the top junior athletes from Ukraine, Russia and Italy, among others.

The meet will be notable, as it’s one of the first times Ukrainian and Russian athletes will compete together since the ongoing crisis began between the two nations.

According to Di Nino, the meet will feature official junior national teams from Russia, Ukraine and Italy, as well as the Energy Standard Club’s squad, which includes Anastasia Fesikova, who won a silver medal in the 200 back at the London Olympics, and Ukrainian Euros medalists Andrey Govorov and Sergii Frolov. Govorov recently made headlines by making a bold peace statement on the podium after winning the 50 fly at an Italian meet.

You can find a brief article about the meet (in its original Ukranian) on the Ukraine Swimming Federation’s page here.
