South East Metro Sharks’ backstroker Abby Kunze has committed to the University of Illinois at Chicago.

Kunze’s Top Times

  • 100 free – 54.72
  • 200 free – 1:59.34
  • 500 free – 5:12.24
  • 50 back – 27.06
  • 100 back – 57.26
  • 200 back – 2:02.61

Kunze will be an immediate boost to the UIC Flames, as she would’ve been their top 200 backstroker last season and their #2 100 backstroker as well. This year, senior Jocelyn Langballe is their top backstroker thus far in the season, and Kunze will definitely help fill that gap when Langballe graduates in the spring.

Last year, Kunze would’ve finished in the B final of the 100 back and made it into the 200 back A final. UIC should largely benefit from Kunze, a Minnesota product, and she could find herself on the medley relays right away. The Flames finished 4th of 8 teams in the Horizon League last season, and will look to incoming talents like Kunze to contribute right off the bat.
