Two of Romania’s most accomplished junior swimmers, Daria Silisteanu and Aissia Prisecariu, delivered standout performances at the European Ice Swimming Championships, where they broke world records in the 50-meter and 100-meter backstroke events.
Silisteanu, already a proven force at the international junior level, is the reigning European junior champion and junior world silver medalist in the 100-meter backstroke. She continued her success in ice swimming, adapting her speed and technique to the extreme conditions of the competition.
Silisteanu put up a time of 31.34 in the 50 back to set a new Ice Swimming world record.
Prisecariu, the European Junior bronze medalist in the girls’ 200-meter backstroke, also impressed with a world record swim, doing so in the 100 back in a time of 1:07.04, reinforcing her reputation as one of Europe’s strongest junior backstrokers.
Romania’s success at the European Ice Swimming Championships extended well beyond the two record holders.
The national team was represented by 12 elite swimmers, who collectively captured an impressive 19 medals across various events. The result marks one of Romania’s most successful appearances in the history of the competition and signals the country’s increasing presence in alternative and extreme swimming formats.

Does this prove ICE is good and does great things for a country?
Imagine doing this sport and having a false start get called back
No way. That’s the end of the day for me.
one and done
Do they practice in ice water?🤔
this should be a Winter Olympics sport
Definitely seems to the meet the criteria of the Winter Olympics: sports in which a major aspect is the environment is trying to kill you.
Remember when Wide World of Sports would show these alternative events. This event would have been great to watch, along with ice motocross, Mexican cliff diving, log throwing, etc. I miss those days!
LOVED this show. I used to binge old episodes on ESPN Classic as a kid.
