Men’s press release:
TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University men’s swimming and diving team defeated McDaniel, 158-84 on Saturday afternoon in their first meet of the new year. The Tigers improve to 6-1, 2-0 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) with the win.
“It was a good meet,” Head Coach Pat Mead said. “Highlights would be Jon Burr who had unbelievable swims and Noah Pritchard who put up outstanding swims and great efforts. They came and they really truly raced in their events, which at this point in the season, that’s what we’re looking for.”
Burr timed 1:57.99 to finish first in the 200-yard backstroke. He finished closely behind sophomore Ryan Martin (1:00.21) to take second-place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:00.89). Martin also picked up a win in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:11.06).
Pritchard earned victories in the 100-yard freestyle (48.74) and the 1000-yard freestyle (9:44.55).
The Tigers had a strong start to the meet, earning a victory in the opening 200-yard medley relay. Matt Hans, John Gartland, Matt McKenney and Nick Breschi combined to time 1:35.30 for the win.
Matt Sieffert (1:56.38, 200-yard butterfly) and Sawyer Martin (21.92, 50-yard freestyle) both earned victories with career-best times.
Other Towson victories include the 200-yard freestyle, won by Brandon Ress (1:45.39) and the 100-yard backstroke, won by McKenney (53.07).
Philip Forrester made his diving debut for the Tigers, earning a score of 101.10 in the one-meter dive and 132.23 in the three-meter event.
The Tigers travel next to CAA rival Delaware on Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 1 p.m. meet.
Women’s press release:
TOWSON, Md. – The Towson University women’s swimming and diving team defeated McDaniel 151-112 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 8-0, 3-0 Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) and continue their undefeated streak.
“It was a good meet for us,” Head Coach Pat Mead said. “Victoria Oslund was the highlight for the women’s hands down. Charlotte Holz had outstanding swims today.They came and they really truly raced in their events, which at this point in the season, that’s what we’re looking for.”
Oslund and Holz helped the Tigers start the meet strong with a victory in the opening 200-yard medley relay. The duo teamed with Jenna Van Camp and Amanda Barber to time 1:46.36.
Oslund earned victories in the 100- (58.92) and 200-yard backstroke (2:07.68).
Holz continued her success in the 100-yard breaststroke, timing 1:06.04 for the first-place finish.
Kendall Krumenacker continued her impressive freshman campaign with a victory in the 200-yard butterfly (2:12.70).
Towson also had first-place finishes by Liz Saint (10:32.04, 1000-yard freestyle), Melissa Toy (1:58.01, 200-yard freestyle) and Caitlin Manthe (54.96, 100-yard freestyle).
The Tiger diving was led by Lyndsey Dickson who scored a season-high 296.70 in the three-meter event and Natalee Szopo who took the victory in the one-meter dive (249.38).
Towson travels next to CAA rival Delaware on Saturday, Jan. 17 for a 1 p.m. meet.
