Tennessee roared to victory in the first of the swimming events at the 2026 SEC Championships, slicing nearly half a second off Alabama’s old SEC Record of 1:33.29 as they touched the wall in 1:32.80.
Mizuki Hirai, who holds the World Junior Record in the short course meter 50 back, led off in 23.65, before handing over to Mckenzie Siroky who scorched a 25.84 split on the breaststroke leg. That was just off the 25.68 she swam at SECs last year.
Ella Jansen, more of a 200 fly swimmer, swam a solid 22.85 on the fly leg, before Camille Spink anchored in a stunning 20.46 as the Volunteers took the win by nearly a second over Alabama. That is Spink’s fastest split ever, and more than three tenths of a second under the 20.82 which had previously been her fastest this season.
They hacked well over a second off the previous school record of 1:34.10 set back in 2019, and were just over a second faster than Texas’ winning time of 1:33.84 from last year.

Alabama finished 2nd behind Tennessee, getting a 23.22 leadoff from Emily Jones and a 22.45 fly leg from Dutch world medalist Tessa Giele. Texas got a 20.85 anchor leg from British freshman Eva Okaro as they placed 3rd in 1:34.52, while both LSU (1:34.71) and Auburn (1:35.07) got 21.2 anchors from Michaela de Villiers and Lisa Klevanovich respectively.

Crazy to think an SEC record would’ve gotten them 3rd in ACC this year.
Look out Cavs/Cards – next year they keep all four and gain Charlotte Crush!
The LADY VOL EMPIRE starting to flex – The poor haggard, rode hard, put-up wet Longhorn Ladies are showing the stress of being hunted. Perhaps, the BIG ORANGE on FIRE will exceed expectations at this meet? Upset the overrated TEXAS group?? If not this year, certainly in 2027 the LVE will take control of the SEC and in 2028 win the NCAA MEET.
