  • King County Aquatic Center, Federal Way, WA
  • LCM (50m)
  • “2025 PN LC 12&U Championships” on Meet Mobile

Four LSC age group records were broken at the 2025 Pacific Northwest 12 & Under Age Group Championships, and Sarah Chiang of the Pacific Dragons Swim Team was responsible for three of them.

The 10-year-old Chiang, swimming the 400m freestyle, became the first 10&U girl in Pacific Northwest history to swim under five minutes. Her time of 4:59.95 eclipsed the 14-year-old record of 5:03.04 set by Gabby Dang in 2011. It ranks as the sixth-fastest time in the nation this year for her age group.

Chiang also broke another record from 2011 later that day in the 200m individual medley. Her 2:40.26 easily topped the former mark of 2:42.21 by Bindi Pedersen by more than a second. That swim is the fifth-fastest in the nation this year among 10&U girls.

Later in the meet, Chiang lowered her own 200m freestyle record from 2:24.02 to 2:23.21. Her old mark earlier this season ended a record that had stood for 34 years. Heather Reichmann’s 2:24.70 from 1991 fell to the Dragons swimmer in September. Chiang’s new mark ranks fifth in the nation this year for her age group.

Chiang also now has the fastest 1500m freestyle in the U.S. this year for 10&U girls at 20:52.21.

Her performance in Federal Way earned her the High Point award for the meet, adding a 100 backstroke win in 1:16.58.

Other Notable Performances:

  • Noah Arthiabah, 12, of Bellevue Swim Club, also had an impact on the record books. He broke the 11–12 boys’ record in the 200m butterfly. His 2:17.89 broke the 2022 mark of 2:19.71 set by Luke Dunn. Arthiababah shaved over four seconds off his previous best of 2:22.08.
    • Additionally, Arthiabah swam to new bests in the 200 IM (2:21.76), 200 Back (2:22.68), and 50 free (26.92) en route to an 11-12 boys High Point award.
  • Olivia Covey, 9, of Bellevue Swim Club, set a slew of lifetime bests on the weekend, topping her previous marks in the 100 free (1:07.83), 100 fly (1:18.69), 400 free (5:20.80), and 200 free (2:30.84).

If she doesn’t qualify for Worlds at 12 years old in 2027, can we officially declare her a failure?

It wouldn’t be a failure, just not her time…
When that moment come, she’ll be ready!
